Children have a choice of activities available and can choose something else if they wish. They are given free snacks when they arrive and won’t go hungry and have access to drinks while they are here.
We welcome children of all abilities and offer support where we can as our building is fully wheelchair accessible.
We work with Taylor Road School to provide an extended school provision through our play sessions and allows parents and carers who work or are in education the time they need, and for children to be children.
If you are working or in full time education and your child attends Taylor School, the What Cabin staff will collect your child and bring them over to the What Cabin. Your child will be here from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm and you may collect your child any time before this. Places are limited and we are not a form of childcare, we are an open access play provision. There is a charge of £5 a week for the pick up service and sessions are free.
Any child over the age of 5 (year 1) may leave according to our open access policy. Please see our policies.
Play Schemes
During school holidays, we are open from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm for 4 weeks in the summer, 2 weeks at Easter and all days during half term breaks except Christmas when our staff take a well-deserved break.
All sessions are still free!!
We offer a variety of free & structured play for children and trips to adventure playgrounds, museums, cinemas, bowling and theme parks and to special events around the city and there is normally a small fee although all trips are subsidised.
All children that attend are aged 5 to 12 and all children must be registered prior to the play scheme starting. .
Holiday Activities & Food Programme
The What Cabin is working closely with Leicester city Council to provide food provision for children who are on benefit related Free School Meals. This means if you have registered with the council for free school meals your child can attend our provision during the holidays and they shall receive a lunch funded by the programme. Dates of when this programme will be sent to you from your school and we shall email out this information to registered children.
All trips will also be free but children must attend sessions to take advantage of this offer.
If your child is on free school meals and under 8 this does not automatically entitle you to the programme as they may be on Universal free school meals. Please check with the city council and register your child as we shall also be checking to see if you are eligible.
Any child over the age of 5 (year 1) may leave according to our open access policy. Please see a member of staff for further details.
